Here's What to Do When Your Furnace Won't Ignite

February 23, 2017

We are getting through the last of the weeks of winter but we still are relying on our furnaces, especially during cool nights. Not much is worse than laying down at night just to find out your furnace won’t kick on. If your furnace won’t turn on, here are a few things you can check yourself before your call D.A. Bennett Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning.

Check Air Filters

You should replace standard air filters monthly. If you fail to do so, they can end up clogged, obstructing air flow and resulting in your furnace malfunctioning.

Check Your Thermostat

See if turning the temperature up a few degrees will get the furnace to turn on. If the true room temperature is higher than the thermostat, the furnace won’t kick on. Also, make sure the system switch is on “heat” or “auto.”

Check the Power

It may seem obvious, but confirm the power switch next to the furnace is “On.” Even gas heating equipment uses electricity so make sure the breaker has not tripped and that the power switch wasn’t accidently switched to the “Off” position.

If you check all these things and your heating system will still not kick on, give D.A. Bennett Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning a call at 518-205-3324 and we’ll come out and take care of you as soon as possible.
