From time-to-time terrible things can happen to special people. And sometimes, these people redirect their misfortune into an opportunity to assist others. People from the AC and Heating service industry know a man who did just that. His name is Joe Groh, and he lives here in Texas.
Joe was in the HVAC industry for almost 30 years before a biking accident left him paralyzed from the neck down. Despite his immobility, Joe wanted to stay active in the HVAC industry, so he started the Joseph Groh Foundation. The foundation works with companies in the construction trades industries, including plumbing, HVAC, electrical and roofing, to offer short and long-term disability insurance for their employees. It also serves as an information hub on spinal cord injuries.
The Joseph Groh Foundation also offers financial assistance to those in the industry or their family members who have suffered a life altering injury or illness. Recipients have used money from the foundation in various ways, including making homes wheel chair accessible by widening doorways, ramp additions, redoing flooring and purchasing adaptive equipment. To meet financial assistance requests, the foundation holds a variety of fundraisers year-round.
D.A. Bennett Service Experts regularly supports Joe and his goal to help others in the HVAC industry that have been impacted by a life altering accident and was proud to sponsor one of the Joseph Groh Foundation’s recent golf tournament fundraisers. The Service Experts Tournament for the Joseph Groh Foundation took place at Coyote Ridge Golf Club in the Dallas TX metro area on May 4. With 131 golfers on the links this year, the tournament earned more than $52,000.
“We are honored to support Joe and his efforts to help others with his real life message of inspiring hope through adversity,” says Scott Boxer, CEO and President of Service Experts. “Whether it’s in Albany or the nearly 85 markets across North America, Service Experts is committed to the communities we serve.”
While D.A. Bennett Service Experts supports a number of charities and organizations across Albany, we’re particularly proud to give back to organizations in the HVAC industry. To learn more about the Joseph Groh Foundation, visit josephgrohfoundation.org.
